Distribution
A familiar and easy route to market is Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). The platform has democratised the self-publishing world. As Amazon is a global player, an author can reach readers – in eBook or paperback form – with no setup fees.
However, they are not the only game in town. Some buyers would prefer to use their independent bookshop or Waterstones, Foyles etc. Being available in bookstores globally is achievable for a self-published author, but it’s often not as easy as replicating the Amazon process.
Importantly, this often results in the paperback being listed on the retailer’s website with a lead time of weeks – which can turn away a potential buyer.
The holy grail, in the UK at least, is for a book to be available on a next-day-order basis in every bookshop. (Let’s ignore the impossibility of being physically in stock everywhere – unless you’re Richard Osman et al!)
This is what we can offer you – a distribution service that’s tough for authors to achieve independently but easier when you work with a publisher. The key difference is that we don’t need to be the publisher of your book – we can discuss this opportunity even if you want to retain the publisher/imprint linked to the title. All that’s happening is that you’re adding more ways for your book to be discovered.
